Slumber party at Jojo and Eric's

For our last family day, we had the chance to go stay the night up with Aunt Jojo and Uncle Eric at the Salmon Creek ranch. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I've been. The grazing horses, the mooing cows, the wild turkeys, and the donkeys that come kiss your fingers as you wave out the car window. I love the fresh country air and the fallen trees along the bumpy dirt road. The views from the mountain top are breathtaking.
Talullah loved spending time with her auntie Jojo, playing barbies and hugging the horses. She talked about it for days afterwards. We can't wait to go visit them again.

It's bedtime

But is anybody sleeping???

What my night looks like

Talullah has a chore. Besides picking up her toys, she is supposed to help daddy sometime during the day. Lately, she has been helping him bring wood in for the fire. Tonight, she decided to keep the sticks to play with, rather than add them to the stove. We looked over, and there she was... wrapping them up in a 'blanket' and calling one piece mommy.

My dinner tonight was less than tasty. Before we even sat to eat I considered dumping it all in the garbage and heading to La Costa. Alas, frugal mother that I am, we made ourselves consume almost all of our meal. Nick didn't eat the vegetables, but I couldn't hold it against him. We were hungry later, so I made cinnamon-date scones. They were a step up from the dinner.

I don't know why, but sometimes when I sweep the floor I grab Talullah's play broom instead of the regular one. Maybe the effort of opening up the closet door where my broom is kept is just too much effort after a long day. Using the tiny broom is NOT easier. I can only use one hand to hold the handle, and I kink my back bending down to make the bristles touch the floor. The dust pan is so small. Note to self: just get the big broom for crying out loud!

This one's for Uncle Cameron

More tubbin' time

When there's nothing to do on Family Day, there's always swimming in the hot tub.

Needing some fresh air

So we went to the park. We thought we'd teach Miss T to fly a kite, but... first of all, there wasn't enough wind. Second, Talullah didn't have the patience to quite understand the art of kite flying. She just wanted to run holding onto the kite so badly. Every time Nick took it to 'help' her get it into the air, she would start bawling. "My kite, my kite!" Such heartfelt sobs and a look of total confusion finally just caused us to give up and head over to the swings and slides. This went over much better.
